Spring {in Autumn}

Scrapbook layout page in pale blue, yellow, and green. Spring theme with butterflies and thickers alpha letters

This layout is of my mom shortly before she and my dad were married. I wanted to do something as young and fresh as my mom looks in this photo, so I went with a spring theme...thinking that this was shortly before their June 12th wedding. After I showed my mom the finished product, she told me it was actually the fall before they were married. So this is more of the metaphorical "spring" of their marriage.

Here's a few close-ups of the details:

I love this sunny yellow, especially paired with this dusty olive green and blue.

I had a long border piece of chipboard that I cut up to use as the "flourishes" on the letters. The "spring" chipboard letters looked a little lonely out there before I added them. I scrap on a whim...I don't start with a plan {I'm not at all endorsing this method as you never really know what you're going to end up with, it probably takes a lot longer than working from a sketch, and there is no doubt in my mind I end up with a lot more of a mess!}, so I end up doing a lot of trial-and-error {meaning I make a lot of errors and they are extremely trying}.

Now, if you've read almost ANY other post, you've probably seen a rolled rose or two. Or three, as is the case here. So it's either drink. Or {chants} Drink! Drink! Drink! I'll let you decide. It is Friday, after all.

I love how the crystal twig casts light over the paper. It adds to the lightness and spring {fall, whatever} freshness. You can also see the hand stitching I did along the yellow curved edge. I used a punch with two holes along the edge, just eyeballing the distance, and used a waxed thread (found in the beading/jewelry-making aisle) without even having to use a needle. I also used a little bit of yellow ink just to make a more pronounced edge.

Getting back to that whole not-planning thing...I did the inking post-thread, which made it much more difficult. {there's probably something to be said for planning}

So there's my "Spring In Autumn" layout. If you liked the soft colors, you might like the "Create Your Own Sunshine" kit in the Dear Zae etsy shop. Happy Friday!
