All You Need is Love: Shabby Boho Chic Layout

Shabby Boho Chic Scrapbooking Page Layout in purple, pink, sage green, and baby blue with Blue Fern Studios and Wild Orchid Crafts mulberry paper flowers, Sizzix Big Shot die cut leaves, with mixed media background pearlescent watercolors & Paper House Productions Wedding Day B side papers & chipboard title

Hello scrap friends! It's been a crazy couple weeks here in the Williams' neck of the woods. So what do you do when you're feeling stressed and drained? You get to scrapbooking with pretty papers and delicious flowers. You splash around some paint and you distress the heck out of everything, because there is nothing more soothing than color therapy {and paper tearing}.

And reminiscing about those early days just after Zae was born doesn't hurt, either. This photo was taken on an unseasonably warm (in Minnesota) November day when he was just about 2 months old.
As usual, I was inspired by multiple challenges on this layout. Firstly, I used the March 1st sketch from Let's Get Sketchy. I loved the diagonal stripes, especially.

I had already done a layout (Meeting My Grandma) for CSI's Case File 226, but the colors are soooo pretty, I had to do it again.

Plus, I had the perfect papers to use...I'll get to that in a minute. First, here's the evidence and testimony I used:

CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration - March Case file 226

Evidence

  • polka dots
  • string
  • animals/bugs
  • plants
Testimony: What makes me happy & a list

Okay, now about that perfect paper. I was lucky enough to win a couple of prizes last month, including some beautiful papers, so I decided to use them in this layout.

The first was the lovely Wedding Day paper pack from Paper House, thanks to Colorful Creations!

I don't have any wedding photos to scrap, so I used the beautiful B-sides in these gorgeous colors and whimsical prints that were perfect for the shabby boho style I had in mind.

Secondly was a set of Creative Embellishments chipboard hearts from Challenge YOUrself:

Sharon (who blogs over at That Girl Fritchey) not only sent the hearts (very quickly, I might add), she included a beautiful chipboard butterfly as well. Thanks so much, Sharon!

The shape of the wings perfectly fit the ethereal challenge mood board challenge at the Creative Embellishments blog.

Of course I had to play along at Challenge YOUrself again...and this was probably the hardest one for me: use negative space (and YOU of course)! We-ellll, if you've seen much of my work, I don't leave much paper real estate untouched. It still ended up being a little busier than I originally planned, but not as full as I would usually have gone.

I love that the challenge at Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge is to use up something from your stash.

I used these lovely pink Blue Fern Studios Soft Blossom blooms. They were the very first thing I ever ordered from Blue Fern, and while I haven't had them for years and years like some stuff, I've had them long enough that I've been hoarding them, waiting for that perfect layout to come along to use them. The cream-colored Wild Orchid Crafts daisy is from my lovely friend Lisa Landry of I Luv Cats & Scraps.

I had done a layout (Be You{tiful}) for More Than Words using their inspiration board once before this month, but c'mon, the challenge includes butterflies! Had to do it again.

I love love love flowers, and you know I include them even on my "boy" layouts, so the inspiration word "beautiful" was a great excuse {in case I needed one} to use them.

On the three tags I used for the Lasting Memories challenge, which I tucked into the pocket behind my photo, I wrote out what I find beautiful: Zae's smile, laugh, and hugs.

Okay, so now that your eyes are exhausted from looking at that massive list of challenges {I can't help it, I find it so fun to pull from all these challenges and create something I would never have created without prompting}, let me take a moment to mention some of the techniques I used.

First, I repeated the same colors as the patterned papers in the corner by using some pearlescent watercolors to color in the wood planks, which were a natural creamy white to begin with.

I wanted the chipboard title to look like aged stone, so I used a sandy gray embossing powder as the background, then layered on some sage green embossing powder here and there to resemble moss. Over that I sponged on layers of brown, white, and black inks, and highlighted spots here and there when I was done with my white Signo pen.

And after all that, de-stressing is complete {and it's almost the weekend}!
