Z is For Zae! GD at Lasting Memories

Remember back when I revealed my CSI Major Case File layout for April, I said I was going to be guest designing at Lasting Memories? Well that day has arrived! Design Team member Lauren came up with the challenge theme "All About The Big Picture."

The first challenge is to use something small to create something BIG.

The first challenge is to use small embellishments (buttons, brads, bling, enamel dots, etc) to create a BIG number or letter (or both) on your layout. If you know my work, I have no problem going big...I don't usually leave much real estate untouched. Using small things is definitely a challenge, but if you've been around my neck of the woods before, you know I love a challenge!

I mulled this one over for quite a while. In fact, I finished my second project (come back next week to see how I used twine to create a BIG shape) before I even started the first.

I departed from my usual style to create a layout for the wall over Zae's crib. No flowers! Now you know that's not my usual!

I used watercolors and glimmer mist for the background on the Z. The "grass" is a sheet of inked cork. The airplanes are from Tim Holtz's Emporium Ephemera Die Cuts. I used a Signo Uni-Ball pen and some white ink to doodle in some clouds.

Don't forget, Lasting Memories has a new challenge every Sunday, and you have until May 26th to get in on the action! Here's the line-up of this month's challenges:

April 30: Use small embellishments (buttons, brads, bling, enamel dots, etc) to create a BIG number or letter on your layout.

May 7: Use baker's twine to make a BIG shape on your layout

May 14: Use strips of paper or washi tape in a BIG way on your layout

May 21: Use lots of small photos to create one BIG shape

Thanks for stopping by!

This Face - Mixed Media Layout

Scrapbooking page layout in purple, blue, gold, and black, with gold foil thickers, chipboard, Prima wooden typewriter and camera icons, die cut hearts, with gold and purple mica and mixed media elements (glimmer sprays and pearlescent watercolors)

Hi all! Somehow the end of the month has snuck up on me, and I realized I haven't yet posted this layout I created for the sketch challenge at Stick It Down. Here's the sketch:

Mr. 67 has been out of town for work, so I've been the sole keeper for the little. I've barely had the energy to scrap! If only I had a tenth of Zae's energy...the house would be spotless, I'd scrap 62 layouts in an evening, and we'd go the park, library, and do shopping all in one day. But life with a 19 month old, living with the chronic fatigue and pain accompanying fibromyalgia means that by the time 6:30 rolls around I'm as ready for bed as he is.

I do have something to release tomorrow, though, for the first of my guest designer layouts for Lasting Memories for May. And of course, by Tuesday I'll have the new challenge round-up ready to peruse, so stop back soon!

Until then, happy scrapping :)

FOR THE HANDS ON CRAFTERS

Sizzix - Big Shot Machine - White and Gray

I've been raving about the Big Shot since Santa brought me one for Christmas. It's a great investment for those scrappers who like to dig in and get really hands on. Not only is it useful, it's fun to use and budget friendly, too.

Here's a video about the Sizzix Big Shot:

There are thousands of dies to create almost anything you can think of:

Not only that, she can use her machine with embossing folders, which create raised patterns that add beautiful texture to paper projects.

Die Cutting Accessories

These tools are handy to have if you're into die cutting. The Spellbinders essentials kit contains a Tool N One for removing die cuts from dies, which is especially nice for the more intricate dies, as well as a mat and a handy magnetic holder (because they are easy to lose track of when you're in the midst of a die cutting binge).

And for even more storage options, Sizzix has a storage caddy that fits right onto the machine for all the little tools and things that go along with die cutting.

And of course, she'll need a place to store all those new dies!

Another cutting option in cutting machines is the Silhouette Cameo, the electronic cutting system that uses digital "cut files" for limitless creativity. She can create her own designs, or find tons of designs online.

Crafter's Bag

Paper storage is always an issue, since it's the most important ingredient in papercrafting, and most of us have oodles of it. Seeing papers neatly organized in paper trays specifically created for scrapbooking paper is a beautiful thing for any papercrafter.

And every scrapper has tons of little things--beads, buttons, ribbon, washi tape-- that beg for homes.

FOR THE TECHIES

It's a fact: scrappers have lots of pictures. You could consider an external hard drive or a cute jump drive, like the scissors-shaped jump drive below, for photo storage, or a cute mini-photo printer that she can use with her mobile device.
