Creative With Chalk Pocket Letter

Pink and black pocket letter

Hi all! I am dropping in to share my last project using the Creative With Chalk kit for the Cherish the Memory DT. Check back soon to see the amazing Nautical kit I've been working with and LOVING! For now, let's enjoy this last dose of pink before we move on to the also-amazing blue :)

Pink and black pocket letter

If you haven't heard of pocket letters, or if you have but you don't know where to start, check out my blog post on getting started with how to make pocket letters.

Pink and black pocket letter

For this project I created a super girly pocket letter for my scrappy friend, Karin. I had done one other PL for her, which was grungy green, so this time I wanted to do something girlier. Karin's style is feminine and lovely, so I wanted to get a little of that vibe.

I love pink, so this kit was so fun to work with and I love how the smaller elements worked so perfectly for the small scale of the pocket letter! Plus, the black just pops right off the page against the softer pinks and teal.

And now it's time to say goodbye to the chalk kit, and hello nautical (Summer Feelings). Stay tuned!

Lombard Street

Pastel scrapbooking layout for Scrap Our Stash Design Team featuring chipboard and die cuts in pink, blue, and lavender purple

Hello scrappy friends! I'm in today to share my layout inspiration for the Scrap Our Stash design team. Earlier this month we had the Tic Tac Toe Challenge, and on the 15th we have the sketch (with a twist) challenge.

THE CHALLENGE:
Create a scrapbook layout using the sketch provided and use a STASH item for each letter in the word prompt FIREWORKS. Here's what I came up with:

F-frame
I-ink
R-rosettes
E-embossing enamel
O-O letter in title
R-ribbon
S-stickles

And here's this month's sketch:

The picture is of my sister standing along Lombard Street in San Francisco (the most crooked street in the world, with 8 hairpin turns on one downhill block).

Canoe Adventure: CSI Case File 234

Summer lake scrapbooking layout in orange, blue, and yellow featuring fish, chevrons, glimmer mist, ball jar, and glossy accents

It's time to share my Design Team project for CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration, case file #234! The mid-month challenge for July is full of bright colors and fun inspiration celebrating summer getaways (but you don't have to scrap that theme if you have something else in mind, just be sure to use the colors, evidence, and testimony from the case file).

If you haven't joined in on the fun yet, I invite you to come over and play! I'll give a quick run down of the rules for those of you who are new to the CSI challenges, or to scrapbooking challenges in general.

Disclaimer [in small print]: Scrapbooking challenges can be addictive. Proceed with extreme caution!

The scene is the inspiration for the case file, which contains a color scheme, clues, and testimony. To complete the challenge, use all five colors, choose THREE of the clues for your layout, and choose one of the journaling prompts (testimony).

Here's a link to the Law and Order page (rules) for the rest of the details.

Summer lake scrapbooking layout in orange, blue, and yellow featuring fish, chevrons, glimmer mist, ball jar, and glossy accents
Evidence Used:
  • Flowers
  • Animals
  • Jars
  • Transparent stuff
  • Stamps

I fussy cut the fish from a paper I've had in my stash for years, and added "bubbles" by using Glossy Accents

My testimony was about a summer trip we took, canoeing down the Black River in Wisconsin (and how we had a family of snakes join us in one of the canoes!). I always refer to my dad as the adventurer because no matter what he did, it always turned into an adventure, so Heidi Swapp's wood die cut "Adventure" was the perfect title.

I fussy cut the jar from BoBunny's Butterfly Kisses paper.

I hope you get a chance to join in on this challenge (and have the chance to win some fabulous prizes!). Head on over to the CSI blog and check out the rest of the Design Team's projects, then get out your paper and scissors!

Balloons Birthday Card

Hello scrappy friends! I'm stopping in today to share my DT project for the Scrapping4Fun "Birthday" challenge.

I received the cutest digi from Digistamps4Joy for this challenge. I used gelatos and a waterbrush to color the image.

I had so much fun creating a colorful background using a star stencil and some texture paste and layers of paint and sprays. I outlined a few of the larger stars with a white Signo Uniball pen.

This challenge ends on Thursday, July 20th at 11:55 PM European Time.

Fireworks Over the Lagoon

Scrap Our Stash Design Team Independence Day Fourth of July Fireworks Red white and blue, black Bazzill background mixed media with texture paste, acrylics, glimmer mists, and stenciling with chipboard stars using encrusted jewel technique

Happy Fourth of July! What a great way to celebrate my first Design Team project for Scrap Our Stash! I am feeling so privileged to be part of this DT, especially since their challenges are special favorites of mine!

Scrap Our Stash was created to inspire and challenge you to use up the products and supplies you have in your scrapbooking stash. If you haven't played along yet, I invite you to come on over and join the fun: the tic-tac-toe challenge on the first of the month, and the sketch with a twist challenge starting on the 15th of the month.

The tic-tac-toe challenge is one of my very favorite challenges! I like that you have a little bit of freedom with plenty of inspiration. Here's this month's challenge board:

THE CHALLENGE:
Create a layout using all three items from any horizontal, vertical or diagonal row from your stash!

Since my day fell on the Fourth, I had to scrap one of my husband's fireworks picture. He is a talented low-light photographer and likes playing with light. This photo of the fireworks over the Pettibone Lagoon was the perfect choice for today's layout. They set the fireworks off from on the spit of land between the Mississippi and the lagoon, making for an amazing view both of the sky and the reflection on the lake.

red fireworks over water

There is also a great image inspiration that really brings all these elements together over at Creative Embellishments:

The challenge is simply to be inspired by at least one element in the picture, with a twist to add stars and stripes.

Scrap Our Stash Design Team Independence Day Fourth of July Fireworks Red white and blue, black Bazzill background mixed media with texture paste, acrylics, glimmer mists, and stenciling with chipboard stars using encrusted jewel technique
Kaisercrafts "Crackle" Stamp

I used the middle row down (the colors red, white, and blue; stars; and a tag) as well as the middle horizontal row (chipboard, stars, and stamping).

Sizzix Stacked Stars Die by Tim Holtz

I cut the stars from chipboard using my Sizzix Big Shot, using the Tim Holtz Stacked Stars Bigz die, and used the encrusted jewel technique to make them sparkle.

Prima's Finnabair Art Ingredients Glass Glitter: Sterling

I first used this technique on my "Never Lose Your Shine" layout back in March and loved the result. I used the leftover chipboard as a stencil to add some stars using Prima's texture paste.

Tonic Studios Nuvo Collection Sparkle Dust: Electric Blue

Since I wanted this layout to be sparkly, I used lots of products that lend a shine. I've included a product list at the bottom of this post :)

Elegant Chalk Tag

Elegant black and white chalkboard shabby chic mixed media tag with die cuts and handmade flower

Last month I created a set of three Shabby Chalk Mixed Media Tags for the Cherish the Memory design team, and I had so much fun making them, and loved them so much, I had to do another set. This time I did two larger tags to accommodate the larger elements of the Creative With Chalk Card Toppers.

Elegant black and white chalkboard mixed media tag with die cuts and handmade flower

The look for this tag is far less shabby than the last tags and much more elegant (with help from pops of black and a little sparkle and bling), but still has a shabby feel.

I love that mason jar!
