Trick or Treat: Halloween Mixed Media

Halloween Fall Autumn Scrapbook Layout Page in purple, orange, black, and white on script paper by Authentique with texture paste stenciling and haunted house, owl, pumpkins, and witch chipboard with Tim Holtz metal trinket and washi tape

Hi there scrappers! Hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend. Carrie in today to share my latest project for the International Scrapbook Garden. I've been playing with the Spider's Web kit from the Toolshed line, and as you can see it's packed with all sorts of fun fall and halloween themed products.

For this project, I used Bewitched #2 from the bonus paper kit. I'm a sucker for anything script--it's a nice neutral background but still has lots of visual texture.

You'll find the Bewitched papers from Authentique papers in the main kit and the bonus paper kit. If you haven't used this brand yet, you are about to fall in love! It is so thick--not to mention the awesome prints. Especially if you use any sort of mixed media, you will love this paper. I had never used it before I received this kit, and I might never have used it if it hadn't been included in the kit! That's one of the reasons I love playing with kits like this: you're sure to find new treasures and fall in love with products you might never have used.

Here's a few detailed shots:

Our Santa

Christmas scrapbook layout in blue, red, green, and black with die cuts from Studio Light and baker's twine

Christmas is getting closer every day! I've been hard at work on all my Christmas scrapbooking, and today I'm sharing a layout created for the Cherish the Memory design team.

I came across this photo of my Uncle Ed, a talented artist, getting dressed up as Santa Claus for our big Christmas Eve gathering at my grandparents' house and it brought back so many memories!

Dozens of cousins would pile into the big bedroom upstairs and my mom or one of the aunts would read us the Night Before Christmas. That's when Santa came, and when we returned downstairs, Santa had filled the room with so many presents you had to weave your way through them to find a place to sit. Sometimes, we had a peek at Santa.

Hop on over to Cherish the Memory and see all the Christmas goodness up in the shop. I've already made a dozen cards. Last year I made two. The coordinated die cut blocks and card making books make it so easy!

Ghosts and Goblins

Halloween Autumn scrapbooking layout in white, orange, and black with Tim Holtz phrase stickers, Martha Stewart Halloween stickers, Creative Embellishments chipboard spiderwebs, bats, creepy tree, skeleton cameo with orange flowers and tattered black Petaloo flowers

Hi there, my friends! I have the most exciting reveal today! I recently received the latest kit from the Toolshed Collection from International Scrapbook Garden. I absolutely love Halloween and fall, and the Spider's Web kit was packed with all kinds of themed goodies!

Here's a peek at the Spider's Web kit:

Here's some close ups of my project:

I had so much fun with the Tim Holtz phrase stickers. It was fun to create a sort of "story" with creepy phrases!

Of course there were tons of halloween themed chipboard pieces from Creative Embellishments in the kit to really go all out

The rub ons in the embellishments bonus kit were sooo perfect beneath the chippie spider web.

I fell in love with these skeleton cameos. So perfectly vintage creepy!

I hope you had a very scary halloween, and be sure to get a hold of the Spider's Web kit to scrap your halloween pics!

Ski Champ: SOS Sketch Challenge

Cross country ski scrapbook page layout in blue, brown and cream yellow with burlap, corrugated cardboard, matboard, and snowflake die cuts

Hello scrappy friends! I'm in today to share my sketch challenge inspiration for the Scrap Our Stash design team. I'll include the details about the challenge toward the end.

I'm calling this one Ski Champ, because my dad skied the American Birkenbeiner (the "Birkie") when he was 47! The Birkie, the largest cross country ski race in the world, is a grueling 57 km race called the Greatest Show on Snow. The race attracts skiiers from countries all over the world, and includes Olympians, who flock to the Wisconsin after months of training and qualifying. Needless to say, I was immensely proud!

THE CHALLENGE:
Create a layout using the sketch provided and use a STASH item for each letter in the word prompt THANKS.

For my layout I used:

T: Tag
H: Hemp twine & "H" alpha
A: Alphabet punch (We R Memory Keepers Mini Punch Board)
N: Navy blue / numbered paper
K: Kaisercraft die cut wood pieces (Little Words)
S: Snowflake paper/dies/embellishments

When posting your layout, be sure to include in your write up which row you used to be considered for the random prize drawing.

Click HERE for SOS Challenge Guidelines
Entries are due on the 29th, 11:59 PM (PST)

Prize winners are selected by random.org and the TOP 3 are selected by the Design Team. One of the TOP 3 winners will be offered a Guest Designer position.

Good luck!

Hidden Trails: CSI 242

Rustic masculine autumn boy scrapbook page layout in gray, brown, green, and black, on wood panel and wood grain background, with green chevron patterned paper, corrugated cardboard, Blue Fern Studios chipboard, heat embossing, tag, and journaling for CSI design team case file 242

Today it's time to share my design team layout for CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration. If you haven't joined in on the fun yet, I invite you to come over and play one of the funnest scrapbooking challenges there is!

Here's this month's case file:

Evidence I used is a text pattern, tags, string, and fussy cutting. For the testimony, I documented something I love to do, which is do our autumn traditions!

I love autumn, despite the fact that it heralds the coming of winter, my least favorite season. There is a wonderful pumpkin patch called Hidden Trails that has a corn maze nearby. We took Zae there on what turned out to be the last beautiful day of autumn to run through the maze and play in the kiddo's play area, which had so many fun things to do: a two story tube slide, a trike racetrack, a shed full of dried shucked corn with little digging utensils, a giant rope spider web, and a bunch of other things Zae didn't want to leave behind!

Pumpkin patch

The pumpkins were so orange, the sky so bright, the wind the perfect temperature, the sun shining. It was one of those days that, even though I had been feeling sad lately, I couldn't help but soak in the joy.

Here's a little info about how to play along with the case file.
The scene is the inspiration for the case file, which contains a color scheme, clues, and testimony. To complete the challenge, use all five colors, choose THREE of the clues for your layout, and choose one of the journaling prompts (testimony).

Here's a link to the Law and Order page (rules) for the rest of the details.

Thanks for coming over today. Hope you enjoyed the invisible tea and...let's see, today let's have cinnamon coffee cake. Sounds like a good autumn treat :)

CSI DT Call!

Hi all! I wanted to let you all know that CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration is having a DT call, as well as changing up the format for the new year! The new challenge twist offers a little more freedom to choose what you use for your layout. For example, you previously had to choose 3 clues to use, but now you can simply use the photo for inspiration with a few prompts OR choose to solve the traditional case file. So if you are struggling to find stuff from your stash to solve the case, struggle no more :)
I'll go ahead and post the details from the CSI blog here so you can get your apps in and get in for this fun team!

Design Team Call (AND an Exciting New Twist on our Challenge for 2018)!

  • Comment on participant entries (we have five commenting teams, so you will be assigned one fifth of the layouts for commenting).
  • Have a Facebook account so you can communicate with the team.
  • Be a follower of the CSI blog and post the design team badge on your blog with a link to our blog.
  • Post our challenge and your layout on your blog within a few days of reveal day with a link back to the CSI blog.

The Twist:

We've heard you, and we're changing things up a bit in 2018! Starting in January (and in November for those applying for the team), you have the choice of using the traditional CSI clues or drawing your own inspiration from The Scene. Here's what our new Case Files will look like:

Or...you may use our traditional Case File. Your choice! CSI wants you to be inspired!

We welcome applicants from all countries. No design team experience is necessary. We look forward to seeing what you create with our November Case Files!
